Abstract
A simple route to layered tetravalent metal phosphonates containing am ide linkages is demonstrated by a model reaction in which the ethylene diammonium ion exchanged form of layered zirconium carboxyethyl-phosph onate is converted into the amide derivative by thermal condensation.
