Herein is reported the first synthesis and structural characterization
of a monolithio aluminum amide dimer: [Me(2)AlNLi(THF)(2)Ph](2). It i
s prepared by deprotonation of the corresponding neutral dimeric speci
es [Me(2)AlNHPh](2) with tBuLi in THF in 78% yield. Characterization d
ata include H-1 and C-13 NMR, elemental analysis, and a single crystal
X-ray analysis. The crystal structure demonstrates that the lithium a
toms are still associated with the molecule. The spectroscopic and str
uctural data indicate that there is not a significant degree of pi bon
ding between. the Al and N atoms.
