The dinuclear phosphido complex of divalent samarium [(Me(3)Si)(2)P]Sm
[mu-P(SiMe(3))(2)]Sm-3(thf)(3) (1) can be readily made from SmI2(thf)(
2) and 2 equiv of KP-(SiMe(3))(2) in tetrahydrofuran solution. The unu
sual molecular structure of complex 1 in the solid state is discussed.
