In this article, existing terminology concerning occupational performa
nce is reviewed. The authors conclude that the occupational therapy te
rminology available is insufficient to describe levels of complexity i
n the performance of an activity. Concepts are suggested to describe t
he different aspects of an activity, namely operations, single actions
, generated actions, action sequences, and simultaneous actions. The s
uggested concepts are not intended to replace, but to supplement exist
ing terminology.
