A superconductor with nominal composition Hg0.8Mo0.2Sr2Y0.5Ca0.5Cu2O6delta with T-c up to 96 K has been isolated and carefully examined by
electron diffraction and X-ray energy dispersive spectrum analyses. It
s structure can be attributed to space group P4/mmm and lattice consta
nts a = 3.82 Angstrom and c = 11.91 Angstrom. Inhomogeneous distributi
on of the cations was observed, which is considered to be the key to t
he broadening of Delta T-c in the R-T curve. The effect of humid atmos
phere on the stability of the sample has also been investigated.
