Experimental data on the concentration dependence of reduced viscosity
of poly(vinyl chloride-co-maleic anhydride) solutions in six solvents
were approximated by an empirical equation eta(r) = a + bexp (-dc), w
here a and b characterize the electrostatic and covalent contributions
to solvation, respectively, and d is the energy characteristic of tau
tomerism of the copolymer. Relationships between coefficients a, b, an
d c of the equation and dipole moment and acceptor and donor numbers o
f a solvent were established. Parameters a and b make it possible to e
valuate the energy and stationarity constants of the universal and spe
cific contributions to solvation of this copolymer. The shape of poly(
vinyl chloride-co-maleic anhydride) macromolecules with respect to zig
zag was assessed in different solvents. The shape changed from the coi
l, in ethyl acetate, to distorted rods, in THF and 1,4-dioxane.
