Abstract
Molecular and hydrodynamic characteristics of poly(terphenylene phthal ide), a new heat-resistant polymer, were studied. The constants of the Mark-Kuhn-Houwink equations relating the molecular mass of polymer to intrinsic viscosities and the sedimentation and diffusion coefficient s were determined. It was established that the macromolecules of poly( terphenylene phthalide) exhibit no long-chain branching in the molecul ar mass range studied. The affinity of the polymer to solvent decrease s upon going from poly(dirphenylene phthalide) to poly(terphenylene ph thalide). According to the values of unperturbed dimensions of macromo lecules, the new material is classified as a flexible-chain polymer.
