Abstract
Using data from a representative sample of Canadians aged 45 years and older, this paper examines the influence of family and work-force cha racteristics on the personal incomes of women and men in varying age c ategories. The analysis assesses whether the income disadvantage women experience relative to men is consistent across age groups and whethe r the factors associated with income vary by age group and gender. The findings demonstrate that the factors associated with income differ d epending on both gender and age with men's earnings substantially high er than women's within and across age groups.
