Ge. Derrico et R. Calzavarini, ADVANCED CERAMIC TOOLS - AN EXPERIMENTAL ASSESSMENT IN TURNING TESTS, Journal of materials processing technology, 54(1-4), 1995, pp. 34-39
A critical survey on the usage of ceramic tools in turning operations
is proposed, based on comparative tests involving twenty-five inserts
and six work materials. The inserts and the work materials are specifi
ed along with the working conditions relevant to the turning tests, an
d the experimental observations are presented and discussed. As a resu
lt, a classification of ceramic tools based on their material composit
ion is focused from the points of view of wear resistance, toughness a
nd resistance to thermal shocks.
