Chromatographic retention relationships between Ce-, Gd-, La-, and Y-c
ontaining endohedral metallofullerenes and a [2-(1-pyrenyl)ethyl]silyl
-silica stationary phase were studied using toluene as eluent. Measure
ments are discussed in comparison to those of empty fullerenes. Both t
he extraction and chromatographic elution behavior of the metallofulle
renes reflect their polar nature and allow inferences regarding the pr
esence of a dipole moment in M@C-82.
