Abstract
We report the direct observation of the dressed state which is populat ed during adiabatic passage of a molecule through the curved wavefront s of a strong nominally resonant pump laser. The dressed system is pro bed by a weak probe laser halfway during its passage through the pump field. Adiabaticity is demonstrated to break down at high probe intens ity.
