Abstract
The reaction of the acroleins possessing a leaving group, derived from alkenyl sulfides by Vilsmeier reaction, with 4-amino-1-methylimidazol e provided a new and convenient route to the imidazo[4,5-b]pyridines, the reaction mechanisms of which were examined by a deuterium labelled experiment.
