A Fourier transform mass spectrometry analysis of the ion/molecule rea
ctions of small carbon cluster anions (C-n(-), n=4-9) with hydrogen su
lfide are reported, Carbon anions were produced from a partially graph
itized petroleum coke. All the anions proved to be reactive towards H2
S, different reaction products being produced from the even- and odd-n
umbered carbon anions. Second-order rate constants were determined for
the reactions.
