E. Jozwicka et al., IMPLEMENTATION OF THE DIABCARE PROGRAM IN REGISTRATION OF PREGNANT DIABETIC WOMEN, Diabetes, nutrition & metabolism, 6(6), 1993, pp. 369-371
Since 1986, after the implementation of an intensive metabolic care pr
ogram in 12 centres in Poland, the index of perinatal mortality of new
borns born to diabetic mothers has fallen from 12% to 1.9% in 1992. Ho
wever, despite noticeable improvement in therapy of diabetes in this g
roup the number of congenital malformations has remained unchanged. Th
e aim of this study was the evaluation of simple registration computer
program DIABCARE as a tool for collecting basic data in the group of
diabetic pregnant women in Warsaw Centre of the ''Bank''; 212 patients
aged between 18 and 41 yr, with diabetes duration from the onset to 2
5 yr were examined. Using data collected in DIABCARE database the impa
ct of metabolic control of diabetes in the first trimester of pregnanc
y (HbA1c, fructosamine) on state of newborn was analyzed (body weight,
Apgar score, malformations). The obstetric data were added to an anal
yzed set using an additional program. In the near future the implement
ation of such a registration system is planned in the remaining 14 obs
tetric-diabetological centres in Poland.
