A metastable solution of Al-1-iodide is formed by quenching of gaseous
Al-1-iodide, formed from Al-(l) and HI(g) at about 1000 degrees C wit
h a mixture of toluene/diethylether. Using triethylamine as donor and
solvent crystalline (AII . NEt(3))(4) 1 can be isolated: a planar Al-4
ring with an Al-Al distance of 265 pm is the most important structura
l feature in this first roomtemperature stable Al-1-Iodide.
