Abstract
The nucleotide (nt) sequence of the recA gene of Leptospira biflexa se rovar patoc strain Patoc I has been determined. The deduced amino acid (aa) sequence of the RecA protein is 387 aa long with a predicted mol ecular mass of 42 355 Da. The aa sequence has a high degree of identit y to the aa sequences of many bacterial RecA, including Pseudomonas fl uorescens, Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis. This is the first r ecA sequence reported for a bacterium in the order Spirochaetales.
