Intermetallic compounds with the L1(2) structure exhibit unusual mecha
nical properties, whose an anomalous increase in flow stress with temp
erature. These mechanical properties, that are strongly dependent on a
lloy composition, temperature and sample orientation, are briefly revi
ewed in the present paper, in order to assemble the whole macroscopic
characteristics of L1(2) intermetallic compounds which have to be expl
ained by the various dislocation models that have been proposed to dat
e or will be elaborated in the near future.
