It is shown that tailored optoelectronic Feedback can be used for sele
cting periodic dynamical output from external cavity semiconductor las
ers undergoing a period doubling bifurcation cascade to chaos. Such op
toelectronic feedback can effectively suppress or invert the bifurcati
on sequence so that low order periodic motion can be resonantly excite
d from high order periodic or chaotic dynamics. The application of the
technique in chaotic communications and its role in chaos control is
indicated.
