Se. Oliver et al., FLUCONAZOLE INFUSED VIA A NEPHROSTOMY TUBE - A NOVEL AND EFFECTIVE ROUTE OF DELIVERY, Journal of clinical pharmacy and therapeutics, 20(6), 1995, pp. 317-318
Fluconazole is an effective oral or intravenous anti-fungal agent. It
undergoes little or no metabolism with 70-80% of the drug excreted unc
hanged in the urine. There is no readily available information on its
effectiveness in treating fungal urinary tract infections in the prese
nce of chronic renal failure. We report a case of chronic renal failur
e with ureteric obstruction complicated by infection with Candida albi
cans that was successfully treated by the infusion of fluconazole via
a nephrostomy tube. There were no complications related to the use of
fluconazole.
