Ms. Butt et al., DISPLACED FRACTURES OF THE DISTAL FEMUR IN ELDERLY PATIENTS, Journal of bone and joint surgery. British volume, 78B(1), 1996, pp. 110-114
We performed a prospective, randomised controlled trial of the operati
ve versus non-operative treatment of 42 displaced fractures of the dis
tal femur in elderly patients. Excellent or good results were achieved
in 53% of the operated group and in 31% of the non-operated group. Th
ere were more complications in the latter, and the time to discharge w
as considerably longer.
