Many developing countries which find themselves lagging behind in the
industrialization race are increasingly turning to tourism as a means
to elevate their economies from the position of underdevelopment. Trad
itionally dependent on the production and export of a limited range of
primary products which have been subject to weak terms of trade and f
luctuating prices, these countries see tourism development as a welcom
e form of diversification of their economies(1).
