The status of ionization chambers using liquids at room temperature is
described with the aim of applying these detectors in particle and as
troparticle physics. Most of the relevant knowledge that exists in rad
iation chemistry on liquids showing fast electron conduction is briefl
y collected and the appropriate theoretical models are summarized. Fin
ally, the work of research and development in the field of this new de
tector technique is reviewed and its applicability in future experimen
tal detectors briefly examined.
