We study the thermally assisted quantum nucleation of magnetic bubbles
in thin ferromagnetic films. For systems with high magnetic anisotrop
y this problem is mathematically analogous to the problem of quantum n
ucleation of a relativistic scalar field in 2+1 dimensions. Instantons
of that model are computed in the most interesting limit of low barri
er. In that limit the nucleation rate is a universal function of tempe
rature which can be tested in experiment.
