Abstract
Millions of adults have been sexually abused. Patients often confide i n their family physicians concerning their abuse. Physicians must unde rstand their own issues surrounding sexual abuse and its sequelae befo re they attempt to treat sexually abused patients. The PLISSIT model o ffers a practical guide for assisting abused adult patients.
