Abstract
This paper deals with the method of moments of Vorobyev, which is a pa rticular case of Galerkin's method. This method is generalized in diff erent ways, and some of its properties are studied in detail. As an ap plication, it is showed that the Lanczos method for solving systems of linear equations can be derived from it and that some generalizations could be obtained.
