Abstract
The generation of the second harmonic (SHG) similar to 5 mu m in a dir ection perpendicular to the surface of the sample is observed as a res ult of the excitation of oppositely propagating surface polaritons on quartz with a diffraction grating (18.2 mu m) by similar to 10 mu m in frared radiation. The SHG is maximum in the region of the 10-cm(-1) ga p, produced by the diffraction grating, on the dispersion curve for qu artz surface polaritons. (C) 1995 American Institute of Physics.
