G. Dabrigeon et al., CIRRHOSIS AND GRANULOMATOUS HEPATITIS IND UCED BY LONG-TERM ADMINISTRATION OF ACETYLSALICYLIC-ACID, Gastroenterologie clinique et biologique, 19(11), 1995, pp. 944-947
We report the case of a 75-year-old woman who was hospitalized for ser
um aminotransferase elevation. She had taken 1 g/d of salicylate thera
py (Aspegic(R) 1000) for 5 years, clorazepate for 10 years, naftidrofu
ryl for 8 months and quinapril for 3 months. Liver histology showed ci
rrhosis and granulomatous hepatitis. Discontinuation of salicylate the
rapy resulted in normalization of liver tests, although other drug adm
inistration was pursued. This observation suggests that salicylate the
rapy can induce cirrhosis.
