A robust identification technique is presented which extracts the line
ar frequency response kernel from an input/response measurement of a g
eneral non-linear system. Also the number and significance of higher o
rder frequency response kernels required For a complete identification
may be assessed from the proposed analysis. The technique is demonstr
ated on an experimental system incorporating damping and stiffness non
