Abstract
Polyaniline in its many forms has potential optical data storage possi bilities along with its known electrical properties. Here we discuss t he role which mechanical motions of the polymer chain play in the delo calisation of electrons on the backbone, and the consequences this has on the optical properties of the polymer.
