Ja. Crayston et al., POLYRADICALS - SYNTHETIC STRATEGIES AND CHARACTERIZATION, Molecular crystals and liquid crystals science and technology. Section A, Molecular crystals and liquid crystals, 234, 1993, pp. 771-775
Synthetic routes to polyradicals are briefly reviewed; in addition the
synthesis and electrochemical characterization of a novel 2,6,6-tetra
methylpiperidinyloxy-1-pyrrylacetate(I) (or, TEMPO-1-pyrrylacetate) ar
e reported. Rather than forming a conducting polymer deposit, this mon
omer coats the electrode with a passivating monolayer, which is electr
oactive at the nitroxide potential (+0.93 V vs Ag+/0). The cyclic volt
ammetry of the surface-confined nitroxide not only exhibits typical mo
nolayer behaviour (calculated coverage 0.5 nmol cm-2), but also unusua
l spikes caused by trapped charge.
