The fundamental physical and electrochromic properties of electrochemi
cally produced poly(2',2''-bithiophene)-5',5''-diyl-1,4-phenylene (PDT
B) have been studied. It has been found that a wide range of film morp
hology can be generated through variation of deposition conditions and
cell electrolyte. Seven segment electrochromic displays utilising the
material exhibit good colour contrast, and perfom well even after 10(
3) cycles.
