Radio brightness of freshwater ice cover at 0.8, 2.3, and 18 cm wavele
ngth was investigated. The drift of imaginary part of the complex rela
tive dielectric permittivity was discovered for ice cover with growing
thickness during the winter period. One may assume that a thin transi
tional layer exists at water-ice interface to explain experimental dat
a obtained for short waves. In whole the results show that to study th
e ice cover in natural condition using the radio brightness method the
temporal behavior of freshwater ice dielectric constant should be kno
wn.
