A. Disumma et al., HISTOQUANTITATIVE ASPECTS OF PYLORIC CECA OF SOME TELEOSTS WITH DIFFERENT DIETARY HABITS, Biomedical research, 7(1), 1996, pp. 113-118
The morphology of the pyloric caeca of some teleosts is described in t
his study. The morphometry was performed by using a semiautomatic syst
em of image analysis. The morphology of the muscular layer of the caec
a and the number of goblet cells present in the villi were evaluated i
n some groups of Mugil auratus (Risso), an omnivorous, limnivorous and
nectonic species and of Scorpaena notata (Rafinesque). In our experie
nce quantitative microscopy is a highly sensitive and efficient method
for morphologic characterization of some structures of the pyloric ca
eca.
