Abstract
High resolution infrared spectroscopy of IRC +10420 has revealed remar kable profiles of several hydrogen recombination lines, with emission detected for the first time in these lines. Brgamma, Pfgamma and Bralp ha have emission peaks blue-shifted with respect to the photosphere, B r12 shows an emission core in the photospheric absorption line. In con trast, the Halpha line profile is double peaked. The line emission is interpreted as originating from a bipolar outflow that probably starte d as recent as ten years ago.
