A method is described for the rapid determination of 3,4-dichloroanili
ne and 4-chloroaniline in antibacterial soaps. Limits of detection (si
gnal-to-noise ratio = 3) were 0.5 mu g/g for 3,4-dichloroaniline and 2
mu g/g for 4-chloroaniline. Including day-to-day and system-to-system
variability, recoveries from a placebo spiked with 50 mu g/g of each
chloroaniline (n = 20) were 101.1 +/- 1.6% for 3,4-dichloroaniline and
102.9 +/- 7.6% for 4-chloroaniline. The method uses UV detection and
is applicable to multiple formulations.
