Abstract
A new type of hydrodynamic instability has been observed in the bounda ry layer convection of argon and oxygen on a heated vertical plate whe n the fluids are very near the gas-liquid critical point [\ T - T-c \ / T-c = 0(10(-6))]. The convection pattern has been investigated by me ans of video microscopy. Characteristic properties of the convection s tructures are described.
