The depolarized, rototranslational light-scattering spectrum of gaseou
s nitrogen at 295 K has been computed in the far spectral wings, takin
g into account both the allowed Raman lines and collision induction sp
ectra. Good agreement between our theoretical results and the experime
ntal data [Y. Le Duff and V. Teboul, Phys. Lett. A 157, 44 (1991)] has
been observed. Our findings indicate that most of the intensity at la
rge frequency shifts is due to the wings of the pressure broadened Ram
an lines.
