Abstract
Oral carbohydrate administration tests were performed in tilapia. Eith er glucose or starch in gelatin capsules were administrated orally aft er the tilapia were put on a fast for 24 h. Blood was sampled at selec ted time intervals from 1 to 12 h thereafter. The concentration of pla sma glucose of tilapia peaked at 3 h after oral ingestion of both carb ohydrates. Plasma insulin concentration in tilapia ingested with gluco se was higher (p<0.05) at Ih after oral administration than those inge sted with starch and the control group. Plasma insulin dilution curve of tilapia was parallel to the insulin standard curve of human beings.
