DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE MS,-5 - 5000 CUBIC YARD, SPLIT-HULL DUMP BARGE

This paper presents an overview of the design and development process leading to the construction of the M.S.-5, the first in a class of 500 0 cubic yard, split-hull dump barges for the Dutra Construction Compan y, San Rafael, California. This design process incorporates current dr edging industry practice, regulatory body criteria and specific owner requirements into engineering procedures to develop and assess the sta bility, longitudinal strength and structural details for this unique c lass of barge.
