The qualitative model of the vertical thermohaline structure evolution
in the subsurface layer of the fractures is introduced. The thermohal
ine structure evolution is caused by the gravitational convection unde
r the ice surface. Important technical details of the observational se
t up in the winter fracture are described. On the basis of these exper
iments the direct estimations were carried out of an external salt (ma
ss) fluxes at the ice-water interface, of the salt fluxes in the under
-ice layer Fs, of the vertical velocity W* in this layer and of their
vertical variability.
