Abstract
The reaction of p-methoxybenzyl alcohol with 3,4-di-O-isopropylidene-a lpha-D-galactopyranuronic acid gave preferentially the corresponding p -methoxybenzyl D-galactopyranuronate. N,N-Dimethylformamide dineopenty l acetal was used as the reagent for esterification.
