A pion exchange quark-quark force which is assumed to be general enoug
h to include the charge dependent parts, based on the classification s
uggested by Henley and Miller, is invoked. With this interaction as in
put the nucleon-nucleon potential is derived using the properly symmet
rized six-quark states for the two nucleon system. Most of the terms o
btained here have the same structure as has generally been used, in th
e study of the charge symmetry breaking effects in n-p scattering. How
ever, there are some new terms which essentially arise as a result of
the detailed quark substructure of the nucleons considered here. In pa
rticular, we have contributions where only the isospin of the n-p syst
em changes but the spin remains conserved. In addition, the quark exch
ange effect in the N-N system gives rise to terms which can be identif
ied with the usual rho, omega exchanges at the nucleon level. These ne
w terms may have some experimentally observable effects on the differe
nce of n-p analyzing power, Delta A. It may, therefore, be worthwhile
to undertake a detailed quantitative study with a comparative estimate
of the individual contributions on such experimental observables.
