Excited states of the La-125 and La-127 nuclei were populated followin
g Sn-112(O-16,p2n) and Cd-112(F-19,4n) fusion-evaporation reactions, r
espectively, and investigated using methods of in-beam gamma-ray spect
roscopy. Five collective bands in La-125, and eleven collective bands
in La-127 were observed. The spin and/or parity assignments of excited
states in these nuclei were based on angular-correlation and linear-p
olarization measurements. The experimental data are discussed and comp
ared to the results of self-consistent total-Routhian-surface calculat
ions including quadrupole pairing.
