J. Hlavay et al., DISTRIBUTION OF TRACE-ELEMENTS IN FILTER-COLLECTED AEROSOL SAMPLES, Fresenius' journal of analytical chemistry, 354(2), 1996, pp. 227-232
A three-stage sequential leaching procedure was applied to the determi
nation of the distribution of trace elements in filter-collected aeros
ols. Sampling was performed at a moderately polluted city (Veszprem) a
nd a regional background sampling site (Kabhegy). A validated sequenti
al leaching technique was applied and 12 elements (Al, Fe, Ca, Mg, Mn,
Pb, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, As and V) were measured. Distribution of the elem
ents was determined for environmentally mobile, carbonate and oxide as
sociated, and environmentally immobile (bound to silicate) fractions.
Lead was found in the highest amount in the environmentally mobile fra
ctions and cadmium was mainly associated with environmentally immobile
fractions. The data obtained provide information on the source of the
elements and on their potential mobility following the deposition of
the aerosols on the land and water surface.
