Abstract
Eight new oleanane-type saponins, polygalasaponins XX--XXVII, along wi th a known saponin, hederagenin 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl (1 --> 2)-be ta-D-glucopyranoside, were isolated from the aerial part of Polygala j aponica. The structures of these compounds were established on the bas is of spectroscopic and chemical evidence.
