Rc. Straw et Sj. Withrow, LIMB-SPARING SURGERY VERSUS AMPUTATION FOR DOGS WITH BONE-TUMORS, The Veterinary clinics of North America. Small animal practice, 26(1), 1996, pp. 135
Recently, limb-sparing surgeries have been used in the treatment of do
gs with malignant bone tumors. These new techniques are fraught with p
otential complications. As amputation is a time-honored technique in v
eterinary medicine for the control of primary bone tumors, the use of
newer, more complicated surgeries such as limb sparing may be consider
ed controversial. In this article, amputation and limb sparing are dis
cussed with reference to case selection, outcome, and possible complic
ations.
