Abstract
Gene therapy is defined broadly as the transfer of DNA into somatic ce lls for therapeutic purposes. This technology will have an immense eff ect on plastic and reconstructive surgery in terms of wound healing, n erve repair, and vessel thrombosis. This review focuses on the factors and mechanisms involved in these processes and on the potential of us ing gene therapy in these areas for future applications in plastic sur gery.
