Four AI-xZn alloys (x = 8, 24, 40, and 48 at%) are studied from RT to
400-degrees-C by X-ray powder diffraction. The structure changes proce
eding during heating are studied. They are in line with the phase diag
ram. The most important result is that the lattice constant of the mat
rix, a[alpha(M/P)], in contact with the various precipitates P occurri
ng in this system, exhibits an unexpected behaviour only in case of fu
lly coherent precipitates, i.e. Guinier-Preston zones; a[alpha(M/GPZ)]
depends on the zinc content of the alloy.
