Cs. Godi et al., SURGICAL REPAIR OF HIP DISLOCATION BY EXTRAARTICULAR STABILIZATION INEXPERIMENTAL CALVES, Indian Veterinary Journal, 73(1), 1996, pp. 52-56
Dislocation of the hip joint is the second most common dislocation see
n in cattle (Greenough et al., 1981). The incidence occurs in all age
groups coinciding with calving and mating season. A recorded incidence
of the condition in ruminants is not available in India (Singh and Ri
shitayal, 1993). Closed reduction was employed in fresh cases but relu
xaiton was the problem (Greenough et al., 1981; Tulleners et al., 1987
). Other lines of treatment were excision arthroplasty (Sahu and Saxen
a, 1976 and Mouly 1980) and open reduction with stabilisation using pr
osthetic round ligaments (Adams 1957; Pattanaik et al., 1990). In the
present study an extraarticular stabilisation technique (Meij et al.,
1992) was employed in experimental calves and the results were recorde
