As. Mir et al., OCCURRENCE OF HISTOMONIASIS (ENTEROHEPATITIS) IN HEN REARED PARTRIDGES (GRACIA-ELECTORIS) IN KASHMIR, Indian Veterinary Journal, 73(1), 1996, pp. 98-99
Histomoniasis or ''Blackhead disease'' caused by Histomonas meleagridi
s, occurs in a variety of gallinaceous birds. Occurrence of histomonia
sis in chicken and turkeys is reported globally (Reid, 1967; Lund, 196
9; Gallazia et al., 1988; Zajicek and Chroust, 1988) but the disease i
s not common in India (Kalia, 1958; Singh and Moore, 1972). This repor
t puts on record an acute outbreak of histomoniasis in wild partridges
reared by using a domestic hen as faster mother.
